World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
